Introductions

"Was that a zebra?!? Turn around!"
"Babe, I'm on the highway, I'm not sure I..."
"TURN AROUND!"
<tires screech>

Yeah, that summarizes how we travel. We adventure! Meet the Rosenbergs, est. 2003!

So, here's the story. Maria and I (I'm the fuzzy one on the right, BTW) have been travelers with stories since before our marriage, and we have never been short on adventures to base those stories on:
  • A camping trip where a certain Eagle Scout may or may not have left the roll of duct tape at home and never lived down the stigma
  • A park visit that ended with a drive through a flash flood
  • Calling a certain seafood restaurant in Seattle five times to delay our reservation due to missing the exit and driving back over Lake Washington. A few times.
  • Strolling down the San Antonio Riverwalk while one of us asks the other, "Baby, am I swerving?" and the other one being unable to tell due to the same margarita
  • Enjoying wine at a winery while a tornado strikes the airport we just left
There are more. I might even tell a few! Simply put, adventure tends to find us. Sometimes I call it "being a shit magnet" but potato, poTAHto. They do make for good stories, and most of them tend to involve a bit of alcohol. The tornado one serves as the gateway to a hobby that has resulted in this blog!

Tenth anniversary trip, and we decide that Denver and the surrounding area would be fun! As you've gathered, we are a bit non-traditional in our travel destinations and we try to do things that are both out-of-the ordinary and cheap/free whenever possible. This leads us to plenty of tours of businesses, parks, and historical places. Coors' plant in Golden was a pretty obvious choice, and we did a bit of research to found that there were many choices similar to it to try out: Stranahan's Distillery, Balistreri Vineyards, and Great Divide Brewing. All three turned out to be hits; we were bitten by the bug in a bad way! When we returned we started learning about Texas' offerings in small-scale alcohol. This was when Dallas just started to enter the craft brewing scene and the surrounding areas were beginning to hit their stride in it. A party at Rahr & Sons led to a trip to Revolver, and that led to a list of over 150 visits! Really:

Alcohol tends to be the common theme, but as Maria loves her nature photography, we started seriously adding in nature preserves and state parks into our daytrips and small vacations. Friends kept hearing our stories, seeing our Facebook posts, and asking us for advice on places to visit. Eventually, it began to be the same question over and over: "Why don't you start a travel blog? You take such cool trips!"

Asked and answered. Voila! Welcome, dear reader!

What can you expect to see? Glad you asked!

  • Daytrip reports and paths to follow
  • Reviews of wineries, breweries, distilleries, and photogenic nature spots
  • Some damn fine outdoor photography from Maria
  • Pet travel pointers from Fritzi, our reluctant adventure dog
Expect at least one new daytrip a month. Our sincere hope is that our trips inspire you to take a few of your own! You have only one time around on this planet - make it noteworthy!
